Marcus Cribb

Lecture in the Gibraltar Garrison Library

I am delighted to have been invited to speak at the Gibraltar Garrison Library by kind hosts in MOD Gibraltar in Her Majesty's Naval Base Gibraltar (HMNB Gibraltar) on Wednesday 27th April at 13:30. There will be time for Q&A after (I don't believe that there are the facilities to live stream or record this)

From the Garrison Library social media:

Wednesday 27th April 13:30 at the Gibraltar Garrison Library

Marcus Cribb will deliver a 45 minute lecture discussing the Spring 1809 Campaign in the Peninsular War, focussing on the Second Battle of Porto, 12th May 1809.

One of the turning points of the Peninsular War, Napoleon's French forces had dominated most of Spain and Portugal. Wellington arrives back in the Iberian Peninsula with a small force, knowing that he is outnumbered, a swift victory is needed. He is quick to go on the offensive and heads to Porto, conducting a daring amphibious attack which results in one of the most exciting and risky battles of the era.

Marcus Cribb is a passionate historian of the Napoleonic Wars, focussing on the Peninsular War and the life of Arthur Wellesley, the 1st Duke of Wellington. Previously he was the manager of Apsley House, Wellington's famous London residence.

The lecture is open to all but places are limited, so if you would like to attend, please email chris.tavares@gibraltargarrisonlibrary.gi to register your interest.

I am very much looking forward to my first international engagement.

Thank you again to my hosts at MOD Gibraltar and the Gibraltar Garrison Library.
